Crystal
K. Newman is a 1998 graduate of the Iowa State University Veterinary School
and comes to Pecan Drive Veterinary Services with a wealth of experience
in the care, raising and training of horses and management of cattle.
Dr. Newman grew up in Northwest Iowa and was valedictorian of the Kingsley High School. She was active in 4-H and FFA in her school years and participated in high school rodeo and qualified for the National High School finals in breakaway calf roping. Also during this time she showed Quarter horses on the state and national level having competed in Des Moines at the Iowa State Fair, and in Omaha at Ak-Sar-Ben.
In college Crystal continued her interests in competition rodeo as she competed on the Iowa State Rodeo team, and served as the secretary of the University Sports Club Council. Dr. Newman grew up on an equine breeding and training facility as her father owned and operated the C Hanging N ranch, where the family bred about 90 to 100 mares a season, and broke and trained colts and horses in jumping, reining and all other western disciplines.
Dr. Newman now makes Vinita her home and residence and shares her household with four year old, Dusti Jo Newman. Dusti Jo is as loquacious and cheerful as her mother and they share their time with the many dogs, cats and horses that are all part of the family.
Dr. Newman's special interests include reproduction in all species, and lameness and soft tissue surgery of horses. She has a special commitment to how handling, housing and nutrition affect the health and welfare of the horse and intends to devote her time to helping the young people of Craig County enjoy and learn more about the human-horse bond.
